Bangladesh Cricket Match – Bengal have made two changes for the T20 World Cup after three matches in New Zealand, with Soumia Sarkar and Shariful Islam named in the final 15-man squad.
The duo will replace Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin in the team. Shoriful is the best batsman in the series for the UAE and will add left-back options to Bengal, while Sarkar will add a versatile and top-class batting force.

Both Shoriful and Sarkar were initially selected as match reserves. However, Saifuddin and Sabbir failed to make the line-up for the three-match series in UAE and New Zealand, forcing the team to make changes to the squad.

“I think there’s a possibility of a team change, that’s probably why they’ve brought in two extra guys, and we’ve got time for that, haven’t we? Donald said.
“(Sridharan) Siram is looking for many right combinations, he feels he has to be right, take one last look and see what needs to be done and go find the right people to do the job. So it’s never an easy thing.
Shoriful played three of the four matches in the tri-series in New Zealand, while Sarkar also played in two of those matches.

New Zealand’s Wellington-Bengal cricket team arrived at the scene of the Christchurch mosque shooting on Friday, officials said.
The team’s players and staff have shared on social media how they avoided bloodshed at the Al Noor Mosque in Hagley Park, one of two mosques attacked in New Zealand.
Bengals strength and conditioning coach Mario Villavarayan told New Zealand media that the players did not see the shooter but heard the shots.

“I spoke to one of them not too long ago,” Vlavarayen said. “They’re on the ground, just starting their run, and the coaching staff is all in the living room.”
Opener Tamim Iqbal tweeted: “Entire team free from active shooters.” “Terrible experience, please keep us in your prayers.”
“Alhamdulillah Allah saved us today during the Christchurch mosque shooting,” Rahim tweeted. “We are (very lucky)… we don’t want this to happen ever again… please pray for us.”

International Cricket Council chief executive David Richardson said the sport’s governing body “fully supports the decision to cancel the Test match”.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this horrific incident in Christchurch,” Richardson said. “Both the teams, staff and competition officials are safe.” Bengal have advanced to the Football World Cup Super League after beating Afghanistan by 88 runs in Chattogram.

Bengal have won their 10 matches in the ICC World Cup Super League 2020-23 with a net percentage of 0.422. They overtook England, who are now in second place with 95 points. They also became the first team in the CWCSL to break the 100-point mark.
The Tigers beat Afghanistan by 88 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series to take a 2-0 lead at home. Liton Das (136) and Mushfiqur Rahim (86) were the stars of the series with the bat and scored 307 to chase down Afghanistan.
Afghanistan fought valiantly for half-centuries against Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran, but the target proved too steep for the visitors.
The Bengals have been a force to be reckoned with in the CWCSL thus far, especially at home where they have won seven of their eight games. Their only loss in the Super League came away from home when they were swept 3-0 in New Zealand.

Bengal’s CWCSL journey started on a high note with a 3-0 win over West Indies in January 2021. The Tigers dominated the series and West Indies failed to cross the 200-run mark in all three matches.

In the first two matches, the visitors were bowled out by 122 and 148, and the Warriors were decimated. In the third innings, when Bengal batted first, the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehmood Ullah helped them reach the mammoth target of 298 balls, 120 balls too many for West Indies.
Shakib Al Hasan, who returned to ODI cricket after a gap of two years, remained unbeaten as he scored 113 runs in six innings.

Bangladesh Cricketers Narrowly Avoid New Zealand Moscow Shootings
Mushfiqur Rahim was the architect of victory in the first two matches with scores of 84 and 125. Sri Lanka won the first and second innings by 33 and 103. They lost their last ODI match by 97 runs.
The Bengals have shown no signs of slowing down in their three-match series against Zimbabwe. A century from Liton Das and a five from Shakib Al Hasan helped them to a big 155-run win.
They had to sweat it out in the second over as they found themselves at 145/6 chasing 241. Shakib bailed them out and finished with a score of 96* as Zimbabwe lost by three runs in their last match. .
Bengal were set a target of 299 in the final over, but Tamim Iqbal’s ton and brilliant finishing from Noorul Hasan and Afif Hossain saw them home with the extras, completing their third straight CWCSL series win.

After the conclusion of the current series against Afghanistan, Bengal have three remaining CWCSL series against South Africa (away), Ireland (away) and England (home). With 10 wins from 14 matches, they are in a strong position to secure automatic qualification for the 2023 World Cup.
The CWCSL 2020-23 will determine which teams qualify for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India. Apart from India, who qualified for the World Cup, the top 7 teams from the CWCSL will directly qualify for the tournament, while the remaining teams will have to go through the qualifiers to book a place in the final group stage.
