World No 1 Cricket Player

World No 1 Cricket Player – We have a huge year of cricket ahead of us with the Ashes and the Cricket World Cup, but who are the greatest players on the planet right now?

Playing in multiple formats and with an ultra-demanding schedule, it’s no mean feat to try to rank the best cricketers in the world. The ICC rankings only tell us so much.

World No 1 Cricket Player

Compiling this list meant balancing T20 specialists with proven Tests. That meant good form with results.

National Captains Decide World’s Best

Do all-rounders have a natural advantage in this debate? How do multi-format stars fare against red-ball masters or short-form specialists? There is a lot to consider when compiling a top 10 list of this nature.

For all the statistics available to us to analyze modern day cricketers, this list is still subjective. All cricket fans will have their own opinion on who should be included and in what order.

Since making his debut for Pakistan as a teenager, Shaheen Shah Afridi has had no time to establish himself as one of the best bowlers in world cricket. With a 6ft 6 frame, Afridi bowls with great pace and creates tricky bounces even on the flatter pitches of Pakistan and the UAE.

Babar Azam Surpasses Virat Kohli’s Massive Feat In Latest ICC T20i Rankings

The left hand is a real ball of three formats. In Tests, he possesses the control and swing to control the scoring and keep the batsmen under pressure. In the white-ball arena, his ability to mix up yorkers and enemy short deliveries makes him a challenge with both the new ball and the death.

Suryakumar Yadav, a renowned T20 genius in the IPL with Mumbai Indians, was a tough player to rank. He is the best T20 batsman on the planet but has only 20 ODIs to his name and has never played a Test.

SKI’s rise to the world stage came in the 1930s, partly because he was a late bloomer, partly because India delayed his call. However, what he has shown in the IPL and in his brief foray into international cricket is that he is a true 360 batsman and impossible to cancel once he gets going.

World No 1 Cricket Player

Steve Smith’s record speaks for itself. He averages over 60 in Test cricket, and although a relatively limited white-ball player, has an excellent record in ODIs. Since averaging over 110 in the 2019 Ashes, the Sydney native has been a little less productive in Test cricket but remains among the elite batsmen in the longest format.

Smith has succeeded on all surfaces, and will be remembered as one of the greatest batsmen of the 21st century when he retires.

Like Afridi, Kagiso Rabada burst onto the international scene at a young age and never looked back. Rabada excelled in all three formats, with pace and bounce that was effective even on surfaces that didn’t offer much for the fast bowler.

After a golden era for South African fast bowling led by Dale Stone and Morne Morkel, Rabada became the leader of the attack. His numbers are outstanding, including a historically high strike rate in a Test match.

Initially starring for Pakistan in white-ball formats, Babar Azam has evolved into one of the country’s greatest batsmen. Azam has great stats in Tests, ODIs and T20s, and has often had to exert considerable pressure on Pakistan’s batting line-up.

Mohammed Siraj Becomes World No. 1 Odi Bowler

Inevitably compared to the Fab Four, Azam has surpassed some of the quartets over the past few years. Not turning 30 until October 2024, he is on course for an all-time great career, comparable to past Pakistani icons like Younis Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf.

Joe Root’s averages are not as spectacular as some of the other elite batsmen around the world, but much of that can be attributed to playing cricket on challenging English pitches.

Not being part of England’s white-ball squad could be used against Root here, although this is more about the quality of England’s batting options than his talents in the shorter formats.

World No 1 Cricket Player

When fit, Jasprit Bumrah is the most complete fast bowler in world cricket. The short run, unique, jerky action makes it difficult for batsmen to pick him. Bumrah torture kills in more ways than one.

He can move and connect the red ball, creating awkward angles. With the white ball in hand, he has a hostile bouncer to complement his variations and ability to execute an accurate yorker.

Shakib Al Hasan has been one of the most underrated cricketers throughout his career. To use the traditional and somewhat simplistic measure of an all-rounder, Shakib’s batting average is higher than his bowling average in Tests, ODIs and T20s. According to the ICC rankings, he is also the number one all-rounder in T20Is and ODIs, while he is ranked third in Tests.

Although controversies have been a feature of Shakib’s career, he is a player who will only be truly appreciated once he retires. He remained Bangladesh’s standout performer.

Although they did not spin the ball significantly, Rashid Khan’s legs became one of the most effective weapons in white-ball cricket. Khan’s red-ball career has also set an impressive pace with Afghanistan recently gaining Test status.

Accurate and with the googles hard to pick, Khan has flourished in many short-form leagues and has a brilliant record for Afghanistan in over 150 white-ball matches. When given the opportunity, he also swings hard with the willow in hand and has often provided useful runs to his team.

Who else? Ben Stokes is not the best batsman in the world, and he is not the best bowler either. In fact, he’s not even statistically the best all-rounder. Stokes, however, is the man you want with bat or ball in hand when the pressure is on. The headlines are two World Cup triumphs and an unlikely heroics at Headingley in 2019, but despite the historic occasions, Stokes has so regularly changed matches for his team.

In 2022, the Christchurch-born all-rounder took over as Test captain and transformed England from one of the worst teams in the world into an unstoppable force, reinventing the way the world thinks about the five-day game in the process.

Stokes’ stats are not particularly impressive and he recently retired from ODI cricket. However, he has been a winner in all formats throughout his career and has proved to be a transforming captain.

If you pick KSI to get a one-off in any format, Stokes would be in the team. Few cricketers can claim that.

KL Rahul, who is currently playing with supreme confidence, is probably the strongest batsman coming into the tournament. After an excellent tour of England, the Indian opener had a brilliant 2nd leg of the IPL as his form improved as the competition progressed.

It’s been a good year for Evin Lewis so far, with plenty of runs for the West Indies and some big knocks in the CPL. The big-hitting opener has managed to carry over his form to the UAE leg of the IPL and has successfully adapted to the tough batting conditions in the host country.

Hazratullah Zazai, a tall, powerfully built southpaw with a chance to clear the boundary, opens for Afghanistan who is among the top 10 T20I batsmen in the ICC rankings. Zazai may not have had much cricket of late but he showed good form in the PSL a few months ago.

Currently number 2 in the ICC T20I batsmen rankings, Babar Azam is the heart and soul of Pakistan’s batting card. Elegant and disciplined at the crease, but with the ability to step up when needed, Babar has looked in outstanding form this year, particularly in
