With the event coming up for the first time, the VVS Laxman-led NCA has been busy organizing regular camps and back-to-back series ahead of the tournament in South Africa.
It all started with the camp in June of last year with a total of 25 appearances, which were chosen based on their performance in the U-19 national event.
After that, the players competed in the Challenger Trophy, a four-way series involving the West Indies, Sri Lanka and the two Indian teams, both sides against New Zealand before five matches in South Africa before the ICC the event.
It is very important because junior female players do not have much exposure to play against international teams unlike junior male players.

“The NCA should be given a lot of credit for the way they prepare the players. Compared to the boys, the girls don’t have many games at the age group, but the BCCI has ensured that they get the best training. Bali said.

Shafali Verma To Lead India In U 19 Women’s World Cup
The likes of Shweta Sehrawat, Parshavi Chopra, Archana Devi, Mannat Kashyap and Titas Sadhu have become overnight stars with their exploits in South Africa, but Bali feels they still have a long way to go.
“Every player has talent, now the women’s IPL will give them a big boost. We will see how they can perform and get ready for the big stage. It’s just the beginning, but the future is bright,” Bali told PTI .
The coach showed that even the players, who did not play regularly, can be the stars of the future.
“As part of the team’s strategy, Sadhu plays most of the games because of his full potential. Another watch is Shabnam MD. He has a good voice and a bowl of 110 km/h. Batter Soumya Tiwari is another. He doesn’t play every game, but he has a lot of potential,” Bali said.

“After the men’s U-19 World Cup last year, all the boys returned to domestic cricket and out of them only Yash Dhull went on to speak in the Ranji Trophy.
“Comparisons between boys and girls should not be made. The boys are always more, they start earlier and play more. Now the girls are still keeping youth sports together with the girls Cricket is more popular,” he said.
Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh are the two senior Indian players in the team. There were many ways the other players were overwhelmed by his presence, but Bali said the captain galvanized the entire room.
“He led the team very well. Shafali gelled with the girls immediately and made friends with everyone. That’s a good thing for a captain. He’s been playing international cricket for over three years, but he makes everyone feel equal.

If there is one player in the Indian team who does not need coaching, it is captain Shafali Verma. Having almost single-handedly guided India to the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020, Verma knows a thing or two about the big tournament. He has rolled his arm with success recently and even returned with figures of 3/8 in four overs against Australia in the World Cup playoffs.
Formerly the captain of the India U19 team before Shafali Verma was pushed to the position, Shweta Sehrawat is a striker from Delhi. The youngster also struggled with the late bat and looked poor in the series against New Zealand and South Africa.
Another experienced player in the setup, Richa Ghosh is a middle-order batsman who can double up as a wicketkeeper. The West Bengal girl with a six-hit streak was in superb form in the senior team’s recent T20I series against Australia.
