Dravid will lead the team from the upcoming home match in New Zealand, which starts on November 17. The current coach Ravi Shastri was suspended after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

“The Cricket Advisory Committee consisting of Ms Sulakshana Naik and R RP Singh on Wednesday unanimously appointed Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team India (Senior Men). The former India captain will lead the next home match against New Zealand. BCCI invited applications for the post on October 26 to appoint Mr Ravi Shastri’s successor , whose term ends after the ICC T20 World Cup,” the BCCI said in a press release.

“The Board congratulates Mr Shastri (former Team Director & Head Coach), Mr B. Arun (Bowling Coach), Mr. R. Sridhar (Fielding Coach) and Mr. Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) for their successful career. Under Shastri, the Indian Cricket Team took the form brave and fearless and performed well in home and away conditions. India rose to the top in the Test format and reached the final of the first World Test Championship in England.
“India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia (2018-19) and then won another series in 2020-21. Zealand 5-0. Led by Shastri and his team, India won. They won all seven Test series at home,” he said.
Dravid said it was “an absolute honor” to be appointed as the team’s head coach.

Dravid’s former player and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly welcomed him in his new role and also praised his efforts to develop young cricketers in the country.

He has worked in Indian cricket as the Head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the game. Rahul Dravid has had an illustrious career as a cricketer, which has seen him become one of the legends of the game. He led India to a strong Test series win over England and the West Indies and is the fourth highest run-getter in Test cricket history with 13,288 runs in 164 matches. He also scored over 10,000 runs in one-day matches and was part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2003 ICC World Cup.
